Hello Mad Squirrel drinkers! - Its been a little while since we last updated the blog, things have been very busy at MSHQ as we have been settling into our new home, ramping up production on our new kit, releasing Hopfest & $UMO in 440ml cans and planning for the future. But finally, we have found the time for a quick blog post to tell you about our newest Limited Release brews!
We have three new beers coming out in before the end of the year! Demand has been so high for our core range (a great situation to be in!) that a couple of these have been delayed from there original intended launch dates and now we have ended up with a rapid-fire release of new brews. So, in release order we are bringing out the following tasty beverages:
POLAR VORTEX AMERICAN AMBER
Polar Vortex (4.6%) is an American Amber ale brewed for the winter months. The beer is initially malt led, with prominent tones of brown bread and caramel, however this is contrasted with a dry fruity finish from the use of 4 US hops varieties (Nugget, Chinook, Ahtanium and Citra) This gives the beer a tropical hint to remind you of warmer days. Polar Vortex is having an exclusive preview at our High Wycombe Tap & Bottle Shop this weekend as part of their ‘Unhinged Cask Festival’ which starts today (Thursday 16th November) and is going on General release in all our Tap & Bottle Shops, and trade from Friday 24th November.
DE LA BEAN COFFEE MILK STOUT
Next up is ‘De La Bean’ (4.0%). De La Bean is the first in a new occasional release series of variations on our beloved core range milk stout ‘De La Crème’. Milk stout is a great style for adding further adjuncts to and we thought we would start with one of the classic additions, coffee. De La Bean has been loaded with freshly roasted beans from…… for a decadent dark roast flavour on top of that classic silky-smooth lactose hit. De La Bean is released on tap in our Tap & Bottle Shops and trade on Friday 1st December. We’re really excited to see how this one goes down and are already thinking ahead to the next version.
Expect to see another De La Theme (see what I did there?) in the first few months of 2018, suggestions are of course welcome via social media. Maybe we will even come up with a shortlist and put it out to a public vote.
SUB-CULTURE CALIFORNIA COMMON
Finally, we will be releasing Subculture (5.2%) on Friday 29th December (just in time for NYE). Subculture is a dry hopped California Common. This is an old school US style beer that is light copper in colour and has been fermented with lager yeast, manipulated to ferment at warmer temperatures. The style (which for legal reasons you definitely CANNOT call a steam beer) is usually just hopped with US grown Northern Brewer. However, for a punchier finish we have also dry hopped with cascade (keeping with the classic US hop theme). The finished brew will have a biscuit malt character and an assertive herbal hop presence followed by a late floral kick.
So, there you have it, three new brews squeezed in before the end of the year. All brews are being racked into cask and kegs so drinkers can choose their preference. Let us know where you see them and how they’re tasting via social media.
Expect more limited release beers in 2018, we can’t wait!
