Harpenden Tap & Bottle Shop Update
We announced our intention to open Harpenden Tap & Bottle Shop back in May, we were hugely excited with the project and at the time of going to press, we were confident for an end of July opening. However, following the announcement there were a number of set back behind the scenes which meant work did not start on the venue at all, until the end of July.
Our vision for Harpenden is a big step away from how the previous proprietors were operating. Because of this work has been more than a simple splash of paint and some new furniture. The building work that is currently underway includes opening a service hatch into the kitchen, completely rebuilding the bar from scratch, a huge overhaul of the cellar and refurbishment of the kitchen, along with all the other work you would expect a new venture to undertake. Our vision is to take the space and open it up, get more light and clean lines in and make it a welcoming and inviting space for people to engage in contemporary beer.
It is currently all pistons go on site, with the whole team working hard to complete the project as soon as possible. The response to the Harpenden announcement was staggering and the daily messages we are receiving asking when we are opening gives us confidence that the town will fully embrace Mad Squirrel once we open the doors. We are sorry we have had to keep people waiting so long, but we promise, it will be worth the wait.
Here’s a few photos of how the site is currently looking. Right now, we are aiming for an opening in the second week of October. Once we have a fixed date we will of course publicise it widely so everyone knows. If you are looking to join Mad Squirrel for a career in beer there are still opportunities to apply for Harpenden positions here.
