Mad Squirrel Career Opportunities

The people in any company are vital to its success, and Mad Squirrel is no different. We have always prided ourselves in providing interesting and engaging roles and offering many opportunities for staff development and progression.

Most new employees join the business as a Trainee Manager, our full-time entry-level role within the Tap & Bottle Shop. At this point we offer comprehensive introductory training to beer, our business and standards. New recruits can move on beyond Trainee Manager pretty quickly. However, as a growing company in many ways we offer employees the chance to carve out their own niche in the business and everyone’s progression story is slightly different.

We felt that we should share with you the career stories of some of our team to show how we are committed to meaningful employment and development. These are some of the people that make Mad Squirrel. This is what they’ve done, what their doing and where they’re heading:

Carl Salmon

Age: 29

What were you doing before joining MS? Working in Financial Recruitment.

When did you start with MS/how long have you been with us? Started in September 2016 so just over 2 years.

What has your career progression been within MS to date? Started as a Trainee Manager at our Wycombe branch and quickly made it to Assistant Manager within the first 4 months. From there I was also given the opportunity to work within the sales team at the Head Office a couple of days a week whilst also continuing to work at High Wycombe. As the company grew I established myself within the sales team at Mad Squirrel and when we moved into the brand new office August 2017, I was offered the position of Trade Sales Executive full time.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I really enjoy speaking with clients and potential clients about the quality of Mad Squirrel Brewery and hearing the overwhelming feedback on the quality of our beer.

What’s your ambition in MS, where would you like to end up? I want to see Mad Squirrel beers pouring in all corners of the UK and I want to be a part of the team that is involved in that. More people drinking Mad Squirrel beers the better!

What’s your Fav MS beer? $UMO

Kris Page

Age: 27

What were you doing before joining MS? I have 10 years of bar / restaurant experience across many roles. Previous jobs have included competing as a champion flair bartender for TGI Fridays, managing town centre pubs and before joining Mad Squirrel I operated a 200 year old freehold country pub with my partner.

When did you start with MS/how long have you been with us? I joined Mad Squirrel in November 2017 and about to hit my first-year service with the company.

What has your career progression been within MS to date? I joined the company as a Assistant Manager and progressed after 3 months service to the position of General Manager of the High Wycombe store.

What do you enjoy most about your job? The thing I enjoy most about my job is the product that I work with. I have worked in many establishments where the end product lacks quality or the standards do not get me hyped. This is not the case with Mad Squirrel as the beer and food that is produced is top quality and industry leading! With a commitment to produce a new unhinged beer every 2 weeks, it is an exciting company to work for, where I can fully support the brand, promote and of course ENJOY!

What’s your ambition in MS, where would you like to end up? My ambition with Mad Squirrel is to have a number of bars within a region I can manage to my own high standards. My passion stems from front line bar work and I hope to still be serving guests within our outlets on a regular basis whilst ensuring as a brand we are giving excellent service to all of our guests who enjoy our unique unhinged products!

What’s your Fav MS beer? Roadkill!

What has your career progression been within MS to date? My first role within the company was as a Trainee Manager and by completing in-house training I became a craft beer specialist. Most recently I have been in an Assistant Manager position.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy learning as much as I can and talking to like-minded people. I am always learning and want to share what I have learnt with more and more people.

What’s your ambition in MS, where would you like to end up? I feel that I am more than capable of becoming a store manager one day, however, I have also got a computing background so would look into doing something in tech support or database management.

What’s your Fav MS beer? It is hard to put down just one of the many fantastic beers Mad Squirrel have made but I feel that Resolution has been the stand out beer for me.

What’s your ambition in MS, where would you like to end up? The next step is brewer and then after that who knows! Possibly another brewing qualification like an IBD and then see where that leads me within the company.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I like the combination of science and practical work, but it is also really nice seeing people enjoy something you have been part of making.

What’s your ambition in MS, where would you like to end up? As production ramps up at the brewery, it is likely that the members of the team will become more specialized and divided up into smaller sub teams. Would be cool to have a senior role in one of them eventually. For now, though I will settle for just becoming a non-apprentice brewer.
